Second Life

   I’m here with something new today! I want to introduce you a virtual reality game Second Life! But first, I should start with explaining what virtual world is. The definition in *Techopedia says “A virtual world is a computer-based online community environment that is designed and shared by individuals so that they can interact in a custom-built, simulated world.” So, as you can see, Second Life is also a virtual world!

How does it work? 

  Firstly, you need to download the app. After the set-up process, you can go into the virtual world of Second Life. First thing you need to do is registering the app. Then, there is a section that you create and design your own avatar! You can create your avatar as a vampire, monster, etc. So, there are many options! After choosing your avatar, you can customize your appearance. When you finish everything about your looking, you need to walk around to practice about how to move your avatar. That’s it! Now, you are in Second Life’s world!

How to use in language learning?

  One of the best things about virtual worlds is you can interact with other players. So that, many people hold a meeting about any kind of topic. For instance, if we consider you are a teacher, you can agree the time and the date with your students and you all can meet on somewhere in Second Life! There is an option where you can put your microphone on and talk with your students. Even if they do not want to speak, they can use the chat box to communicate. This activity will help the students to socialize on internet and be familiar to these kinds of tools. Besides these, of course the main reason of the meeting is improving language! So, the teacher can encourage the students to speak and they all enjoy this activity. To add more, in this pandemic this app could be a good option to meet with students!

Also, this kind of apps and using them, make the teachers more innovative!
